Frequently asked questions on online therapy at web therapy

Here is a collection of some frequently asked questions that my clients have for Psychotherapy and Couseling online. Select one of the questions below to see the answer.

GENERAL QUESTIONS

Counseling is a confidential process of interaction between the Psychologist and the person who asks for help. Through frequent discussions, you have the opportunity to share your thoughts, fears and emotions with a trained specialist who will guide you to explore ways of understanding and addressing the issues that concern you. Psychotherapy and Counseling will help you gain new perspectives, experience situations and build a sense of mental equilibrium.
Generally, online counseling is appropriate for anyone facing a difficult situation and feel that they need help in order to resolve it. It may also be helpful for people facing:
  •      Stress
  •      Panic attacks
  •      Mild or moderate depression
  •      Social anxiety
  •      Low self-esteem
  •      Problems with relations.
It is not suitable for people who have severe psychopathology or suicidal tendencies. If you have serious thoughts of suicide attempt or if you feel great distress and "can not stand each other" it is advisable: To contact a specific department or mental health which may be in direct contact. Call ASAP 1-800-273-TALK in the U.S. or visit IASP or Suicide.org to find a helpline in your country.
You may have heard that online counseling can not be compared with individual sessions as to its effectiveness. The truth is that everything new causes objections and is questioned. A growing body of research demonstrates number this reticence inaccurate. The online counseling may have similar efficacy to conventional features like show trials. For example, a study published in the Lancet on the online cognitive therapy of depression showed that it was similar to traditional therapy. The online counseling even, in some cases may have benefits than disadvantages: surveys show that many people feel more comfortable with the process so that it is more honest and thus allow the counselor to provide better treatment. Apart from the above, The online counseling has the following advantages: Serves people who:
  •      They live in remote places and therefore does not have access to counselors / psychotherapists.
  •      They have some disabilities such as hearing impairment or limited mobility.
  •      They have small children and can not leave the house.
  •      They have specific phobias (like social phobia or agoraphobia).
  •      They are very busy with their everyday activities and cannot find time within office hours of a psychotherapist.
  •      They are traveling very often and don't stay to a specific place to visit a psychtherapist's office.
I offer online counseling in three ways:
  • Through messaging e-mail. Some people feel more comfortable expressing their thoughts in writing than when speaking directly to someone. Also, the written word gives many people the opportunity to express themselves more fully and in greater depth.
  • Through Skype Video. The teleconference via Skype enables audiovisual contact between therapist and client. This way online counseling provides a communicative immediacy similar to that which would exist if both sides were in the same room.
  • Through Skype Chat, MSN Chat and Mywebtherapy Chat (on the bottom right). The Chat is different from the Email it happens in real time and forms a conversation between the parties involved. It is different by teleconferencing because it takes longer to read, to think and to write.
If there is another prefferable way of running sessions using internet technology I will be happy to try it!
